I want to change from using my pin for login on my computer to using my password. I have searched and followed the instructions in the various questions/ threads here but there is no toggle switch to turn off Microsoft Hello.

I've tried to follow this script but I don't get any password option under sign in options. This is a personal laptop using Window 11.

    Hi Jerri,

This is April, I'll be happy to assist you. Sorry to hear that you're having issue with Windows 11 login. Let me help you out.

Based on the description you provided, you want to stop using a PIN to login to your computer and switch back to password login, but you can't find the option to disable Windows Hello despite following existing instructions.

Are you using a personal device or one managed by an organization (like work or school), and do you see any message indicating that Windows Hello is required or managed by your administrator?

Here's how to switch back from PIN to Password Login:

    1. Open Sign-in Options
      • Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options
      • Under PIN (Windows Hello), select Remove
      • If Remove is unavailable (grayed out), it's likely restricted by a policy or requirement (e.g., a work or device encryption setting).
    2. Confirm Password Availability
      • In the same Sign-in options menu, scroll to Password
      • If you see Add, click it to create a password
      • If a password is already set, you're all set > Windows will automatically use it after the PIN is removed.
    3. Turn Off Windows Hello Enforcement (if applicable) If your system enforces Windows Hello (common with organizational or managed devices):
      • Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter (available only on Pro editions)
      • Navigate to: Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → System → Logon
      • Double-click Turn on convenience PIN sign-in
      • Change the setting to Disabled
      • Then verify the following: Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → Windows Components → Windows Hello for Business
      • Disable Use Windows Hello for Business
    4. Registry Adjustment (if Group Policy prevents changes) If Group Policy isn't accessible or fails to apply:
      • Press Windows + R, type regedit, and press Enter
      • Browse to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System
      • Locate AllowDomainPINLogon and set it to 0
      • Restart your computer
    5. Reboot and Verify
      • Once the PIN is removed and the system restarts, Windows should now prompt you to sign in using your account password instead.

If the issue continues, please don’t hesitate to contact us again. We’re here to help, and we appreciate your continued trust in us.

    Warm Regards,

    April P.
