I have a fairly new Surface Laptop 7 with a battery that does not charge. I'm using the power source that came with the device, but it is not charging. It shows the battery at 0% with the lightning bolt. Any help?

Does the charger LED light up?

Hold Power button for 20–30 seconds

    Release

    Wait 10 seconds

    Turn it back on

If it boots → check if charging improves.

    Shut down completely

    Hold Volume Up

    Press and release Power

Keep holding Volume Up until UEFI appears

If battery still shows 0% in UEFI, that strongly suggests:

Battery firmware issue or defective battery.

    If:

    Battery stuck at 0%

    UEFI shows 0%

    Hard reset doesn’t fix

This is likely a warranty replacement case.

Surface Laptop 7 batteries are not user-replaceable, so Microsoft support is the correct path.

If your Surface Laptop 7 is not charging, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Check the Power Supply: Ensure that you are using the original power supply that came with your Surface Laptop 7. Verify that the power supply is plugged into a working outlet.
    2. Inspect the Charging Port: Look for any debris or damage in the charging port of your laptop. Clean it gently if necessary.
    3. Run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (SDT):
      • Connect the power supply to your device.
      • Boot the device to the Windows Desktop.
      • Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the USB drive containing the SDT executable and launch it.
      • Select Repair from the drop-down menu, then choose Repair Setup and Validation. Run the Battery Repair (Setup) to put your device into repair mode. Follow the on-screen instructions.
    4. Battery Authentication: After running the Battery Repair, you should also run the Battery Repair (Validation) tool from the SDT to ensure the battery is properly authenticated. This requires a stable internet connection.
    5. Allow the Battery to Charge: With the device connected to the power supply, let it charge until the battery icon in Windows shows at least 50% remaining charge.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, consider reaching out to Microsoft Support for further assistance.
