Download and install official Surface Pro 6 drivers + firmware

    Reboot and recheck.

To record video and audio on a Surface Pro 6 and then save/edit it, use the built-in Camera app for video and the Voice Recorder or Clipchamp apps for audio/video editing.

    1. Record a video with camera and sound
    • Open the Camera app (select Start, then Camera).
    • By default it is in photo mode; switch to Video mode.
    • Press the Video (camera) button to start recording; press again to stop.
    • A small privacy light appears near the active camera when it is in use.
    • Videos are saved automatically; use the Photos app or File Explorer (in the Pictures / Camera Roll folder) to find and open them.

If there is no sound in the video, check the default input device:

    1. Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
    2. Under Input, select the built-in mic (or the mic you want to use). Selecting it sets it as the default recording device.
    3. Record audio only
    • Open the Voice Recorder app:
      • Go to Start, select All apps, then select Voice Recorder.
    • Use the record button to start/stop audio recording. Files are saved automatically in the app.
    1. Check sound output and input devices If playback or recording is not working:
    2. Go to Start > Settings > System > Sound.
    3. Under Output, choose the speakers/headset to use for playback.
    4. Under Input, choose the microphone to use for recording.

For communication apps (like Skype), set communication devices separately:

    1. In Settings > System > Sound, select More sound settings.
    2. On the Playback tab, select the device and choose Set Default Communication Device.
    3. On the Recording tab, select the mic and choose Set Default Communication Device.
    4. Record webcam video and edit it in Clipchamp To record and then edit a webcam video (with audio):
    5. Open Clipchamp (desktop app on Windows or go to app.clipchamp.com in Edge/Chrome).
    6. Create a new project.
    7. Select the record & create tab, then choose the camera option.
    8. Record the webcam video (it uses the selected camera and microphone).
    9. After recording, the clip appears in the editor where it can be trimmed, edited, and exported.
    10. Record screen + audio (if needed) If the goal is to record the screen with audio:
    11. In Clipchamp, select record & create and choose screen or screen and camera.
    12. Select the screen/window/tab to record and whether to include system audio.
    13. Start recording; the microphone and system audio will be captured.
    14. Select stop sharing to end the recording, then save and edit.
    15. A WebM file is downloaded (usually to the Downloads folder) and also added to the Clipchamp timeline for editing.

If recording still fails (no video, no audio, or cannot save/edit), verify:

    • The camera is not blocked or turned off by a physical shutter or function key.
    • The correct microphone and camera are selected in the app (Camera or Clipchamp).
