Everytime I launch my Microsoft office, it runs into an error after a few seconds of restarting, it says "We're sorry, word has run into an error that is preventing it from working properly, therefore word will need to close as a result.", Please help with fixing and what could be the cause.

    Hi,

Which Operating System are you on?

Press Windows+R keys on the keyboard, or Right-click Start on the Taskbar and choose Run.

    Type winword.exe /safe

    Press Enter.

    Does it open Properly?

Please do an online repair as QA assist suggested, and let me know.

The error indicates a problem with the Office installation rather than with a specific document. The most effective fix in this scenario is a full Online Repair of Office, and if that fails, a complete reinstall.

    Follow these steps in order:

    1. Run an Online Repair of Office
      • Open the Windows Settings app.
      • Go to Apps > Apps & features.
      • Find the Microsoft 365/Office entry in the list.
      • Select it and choose Modify (or Advanced options depending on the build).
      • Choose Online Repair (or the most thorough repair option) and let it complete.
      • Restart the computer and try opening Word again.
Multiple Microsoft Q&A resolutions indicate that the built‑in “Would you like us to repair now?” dialog is often ineffective, while a full Online Repair from Settings reliably fixes this error.
    2. If Online Repair does not resolve it
      • Uninstall Office from Apps & features or Programs and Features.
      • Restart (not just shut down) the PC.
      • Reinstall Office from the Microsoft account services page associated with the subscription.
    3. If the issue started after an update (Office 2013 on Windows 10)
      • Open any Office app that will start.
      • Go to File > Account (or Office Account in Outlook).
      • Under Product Information, select Update Options > Update Now to ensure the latest product update is installed, as earlier builds of Office 2013 on Windows 10 had a known issue that caused this error.

    Cause

    • The error is typically caused by corruption or problems in the Office installation files. In some cases, older builds of Office (for example, Office 2013 after upgrading to Windows 10) had a known bug that was fixed in later updates, so updating or repairing the installation resolves it.
