Windows Update for Business (WUfB) driver management ring installing generic display adapters over specialized CAD design workstations

We use WUfB rings to manage updates across our design department's high-performance workstations. An automated driver deployment recently installed a generic Microsoft-certified display driver, overwriting the customized graphics package provided by the hardware vendor. As a result, multi-display functionality within AutoCAD is no longer operating correctly.

    Hello,

To prevent Windows Update from overwriting vendor-specific graphics drivers on CAD workstations, you should enable the "Exclude drivers from Windows quality updates" policy via the Group Policy Editor. For more granular control, use the "Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs" policy to whitelist specific hardware IDs, or manage this directly in the registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\DeviceInstall\Restrictions\DenyDeviceIDs. These methods ensure long-term stability for professional design software by forcing the system to ignore generic driver updates.
