Additional chat-related features and issues within Microsoft Teams for business
Dear @Camille HUOT,
Good day, and I appreciate the clear explanation of your concern. I can understand how disruptive it must be to lose all your open chats after starting a meeting, especially when working in Teams throughout the day. As a forum moderator, I genuinely wish I could directly access your account or delve into the backend systems to diagnose and fix this for you. However, our role here is limited to providing general guidance and solutions that users can try themselves.
From my research, the recurring message “No big deal but we need to refresh to show your content” in Microsoft Teams on the web (Chrome), which causes all open chat windows to be lost after starting a meeting, is a common issue of the web client. This behavior has been reported by multiple users and is often triggered by authentication refreshes, meeting-related resource handling, or session management changes. You may try the following steps to see if they help improve the experience:
1.Use the desktop application
Download and install the native desktop version of Teams from Microsoft Teams. The desktop client handles meetings and background sessions much more reliably and generally does not force a full page refresh of your chats.
2.Install Teams as a Progressive Web App (PWA)
- In Chrome, open teams.cloud.com.
- Click the Install icon in the address bar.
- This creates a dedicated windowed application that behaves more like the desktop version and often reduces session interruptions.
3.Minimize session in the web version
- Keep only one Teams tab open and avoid having multiple Microsoft 365 tabs (e.g., PowerPoint, Outlook web) active simultaneously, as they can trigger authentication timeouts.
- Before joining a meeting, use the Pop-out chat feature (three dots in a chat > Open in new window) to open them in separate windows.
- After ending a meeting, manually refreshing the main Teams tab may help restore session stability more quickly.
4.Report the issue to Microsoft
- In Teams (web or desktop), click the three dots next to your profile picture > Feedback > Report a problem
- Describe the problem exactly as you did here, mention that it occurs specifically after starting meetings, and note it has been happening since May 2026.
- User feedback helps Microsoft investigate patterns and prioritize potential improvements or fixes.
