User reported issues with Microsoft Teams 1:1 chats.

Incoming messages show as banner notifications but do not appear in the actual chat window.

Issue affects both Teams desktop app and Teams web version.

Messages are visible and received correctly on Teams mobile app.

Issue appears to impact 1:1 chats specifically

Users can see the notification banner, which confirms the message is being delivered in some form.

Chat content is not syncing/displaying properly on desktop and web.

Cleared Teams cache, repaired the app, and reset Teams, but issue persists.

Teams web was tested and shows the same behavior, so this is unlikely to be only a desktop app cache issue.

Issue appears intermittent

Online repair fixed the issue with the desktop app but its temproary
Verified Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime is installed under C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeWebView\Application.  Ran WebView2 repair command using latest version 149.0.4022.52.  Command completed without errors.  Restarted the device, clear New Teams LocalCache, sign out/sign back into Teams, and retested 1:1 chat - no go When a new person sends the user a message, the message does not appear in the chat window, but the user receives the notification banner. The chat only loads after searching for the person’s profile and opening the chat manually.

    Hi @Ganesh raj,

Thank you for the detailed write up and for all the troubleshooting you have already completed, including clearing the Teams cache, repairing and resetting the app, verifying the Edge WebView2 Runtime, running the repair on the latest version, and confirming the same behavior on Teams web.

I attempted to recreate the scenario you described, where an incoming 1:1 message shows as a banner notification but does not appear in the chat window until the conversation is opened manually. I was not able to reproduce it on my side, and since the behavior is intermittent and has persisted across both the desktop app and the web client after the steps already taken, the next step is to ask your IT administrator submit a support ticket through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center so the root cause can be identified.

A support ticket allows the team to review the logs tied to your tenant and account and trace why the chat is not displaying in real time. When you raise it, please include the troubleshooting steps you have already completed, the intermittent nature of the issue, and a recent example with the approximate date and time a message failed to appear.

In case you do not know who is your IT admin, kindly refer to this article: How do I find my Microsoft 365 admin? - Microsoft Support

For guidance on how to request support in the admin center, please refer to: Get support - Microsoft 365 admin.

I hope you found this response helpful, and I greatly appreciate it if you could mark it as accepted. Doing so helps others in the community quickly identify relevant guidance and contributes to making the forum a more helpful and collaborative space.

Thank you for your kindness and for your continued contributions to the forum.
