    Hello,

Thank you for posting question on Microsoft Windows Forum!

Based on the provided error message "an error occurred" when trying to send a Google Docs file through Windows Link to Your Phone (or Phone Link) typically happens because of how the two platforms handle web-based file handovers. Link to Windows expects a physical file path or a standardized system URI, whereas Google Docs native share triggers a specialized web dialogue or browser intent.

The suggestion here is to use copy-paste method. Instead of relying on the built-in operating system "Share" button to bridge the gap between Google and Microsoft, manually generating the link circumvents the system dialog entirely. You can open your Google Doc. Click Share in the top right corner. Under General Access, change it from Restricted to Anyone with the link (or your organization's specific setting) and set the permission (Viewer/Editor). Click Copy link. Open your Phone Link app on Windows, open your chat thread or the device's clipboard sharing feature, and paste (Ctrl + V) the URL directly.

If you are trying to share from a browser window or an integrated Android app WebView, a corrupted session state often triggers that generic "An error occurred" block. You can open a private/incognito window, log into Google Docs, and try triggering the system share again. If it works, clearing your browser's cookies and cache will resolve the issue permanently. Otherwise, on Link to Windows / Phone Link App. Navigating to Windows Settings > Apps > Installed Apps, find Phone Link, click Advanced Options, and select Repair, then Reset.

Another suggestion is to convert to a Native Windows Format. If your goal is to send an actual physical file over Link to Windows (rather than just a link to a cloud document), Windows cannot interpret a raw Google Doc natively. You must export it first. Inside the Google Doc, go to File > Download. Select Microsoft Word (.docx) or PDF Document (.pdf). Once saved to your local drive, drag and drop that file directly into your Link to Windows app interface to send it to your device.

The following link is for your further reference .

Hope the above information is helpful! If it is. Please free feel to hit "Accept Answer" for benefitting others in community having the same issue too.
