I can access my new outlook account from my PC but not from my laptop.

My laptop prompts me to enter a password for my email address, then says it is 'setting things up', but then circles back to asking me to enter my password.

Hi, I'm John! I will help you with this.

    1. Are you using the new Outlook app, Outlook Classic, or Windows Mail on the laptop?
    2. Do you receive any error message after entering the password, or does it simply loop back and ask for the password again?

As a quick test, try removing the account from Outlook on the laptop and then add it again.

Also check if the laptop's date, time, and time zone are correct, as incorrect settings can sometimes cause sign-in loops.

Let us know what version of Outlook you are using and what happens when you try to sign in through a web browser on the laptop. That will help narrow down the cause.

On the laptop, Outlook is stuck in a sign-in loop because the account can’t complete authentication. Use these steps to break the loop and re-establish the account.

    1. Confirm the password and any app-password requirement
      • On the PC (where sign-in works), open a browser and sign in to the email provider’s website with the same account and password.
      • If the provider requires an app password for email apps (for example, when two-step verification is enabled), generate an app password on the provider’s site and use that in Outlook on the laptop instead of the normal password. For Microsoft accounts, see the guidance under Have you changed your password recently? and the note about Please create an app password for Outlook on your email provider's site in the context.
    2. Remove and re-add the account in new Outlook on the laptop
      • In new Outlook on the laptop, go to Settings (gear icon) → Accounts.
      • Remove the problematic email account.
      • Close Outlook.
      • Reopen Outlook and add the account again from scratch, entering the correct password or app password when prompted.
      • This mirrors the working resolution where creating a fresh account entry in the Outlook app, then removing and re-adding the original account, cleared a similar login loop.
    3. If the account is an Outlook.com / Hotmail / Live address
      • Ensure it is added as an Outlook.com/Microsoft account type, not as Exchange or IMAP, so that authentication and sync work correctly.
    4. If Outlook still loops on sign-in
      • On the laptop, update Outlook and Windows fully.
      • If prompted again with a message about creating an app password or if two-step verification is enabled on the account, follow the provider’s instructions to create and use an app password in Outlook.

If the problem persists after these steps, remove the account again on the laptop and temporarily access mail via the web while checking with the email provider’s help or Microsoft support for account-specific sign-in issues.
