Hello, thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A.

    1. Do you receive any error messages when opening Office applications?
    2. Do other apps, such as Excel or PowerPoint, work normally?

If you are getting the same issue with all Office apps, including Word, please share the complete error message here, or describe exactly what happens when you launch Word. And,

    1. Can you try running Word as an administrator? (Right-click the Word app and select “Run as administrator.”)
    2. Have you tried repairing your Office applications?

Follow these steps on the Windows PC to try to get Word working again. These steps keep documents and files, but they repair Office itself.

    1. Close all Office apps
    • Make sure Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. are all closed.
    1. Run an Online Repair of Office
    1. Select Start > Settings > System > Apps > Installed apps.
    2. Find Microsoft Office (or Microsoft 365 Apps) in the list.
    3. Select it, then choose Modify.
    4. Select Online Repair, then select Repair and let it complete.
    5. Restart the computer when the repair finishes.
    6. Open Word again and test.

If Word still shows “has run into an error” or will not open after Online Repair, use the built‑in “Repair now” prompt only once; if it keeps looping, move to the next step instead of repeating it.

    1. Fully reinstall Office (if Online Repair does not help)
    1. Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
    2. Find Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365 and choose Uninstall.
    3. After uninstall completes, restart the computer (use Restart, not Shut down).
    4. Sign in to the Microsoft account that owns the Microsoft 365 subscription and reinstall Office from there.
    5. After installation, open Word and confirm it starts normally.
    1. If no Microsoft 365 app opens at all If none of the Office apps (Word, Excel, Outlook) open and all show the same “run into an error” message, the recommended solution is:
    • First try Online Repair as above.
    • If that fails, completely uninstall Office, restart the PC, and reinstall Office from the Microsoft account.
    1. Get live Microsoft support If these steps are too difficult to perform or do not resolve the problem, contact Microsoft Support for live help:
    • Go to the Microsoft Support website and use the contact options (chat or call) for Microsoft 365 / Office on Windows.
    • Explain that Word and other Office apps no longer start and that Online Repair has already been tried.
