Issue with PowerBI Tab in Microsoft Teams Mobile

When attempting to access a PowerBI report via a PowerBI tab in MS Teams mobile, all users (admin included) are currently getting the "You don't have access to view this page" error type: AppMetadataInaccessible.

No issues when accessing said tabs on MS Teams desktop. Definitely not an access issue. I've updated teams, tested on android and IOS, recreated the report share link/teams tab.

The link does not work in a mobile browser either unless users install the PowerBI Mobile app (link redirects to app). I used to be able to view directly from within teams -- has the functionality simply changed?

This behavior is explained by current limitations of Power BI integration in Microsoft Teams and on mobile.

Key points based on the documented behavior:

    1. Power BI dashboards and some app content cannot be embedded in the Power BI tab in Teams.
      • The documentation explicitly states that Power BI dashboards cannot be embedded in the Power BI tab for Microsoft Teams.
      • When embedding Power BI organizational apps in Teams tabs, items that can't be embedded in Teams open in a new browser window instead.
    2. URL filters and query-string parameters are not supported in the Power BI tab.
      • If the tab link relies on URL filters or query parameters, it may not behave as expected in Teams or mobile.
    3. Mobile behavior is different and often defers to the Power BI mobile app.
      • For the best experience viewing Power BI tabs in Teams mobile, the documented guidance is to use the Power BI mobile apps.
      • In Teams mobile, users should go to the tab list, select More options (...)Open in browser. If the Power BI mobile app is installed, the report opens in the Power BI mobile app.
      • This aligns with what is observed: the link does not work in a mobile browser unless the Power BI mobile app is installed, and the link redirects to the app.
    4. The documentation positions the Power BI mobile app as the primary way to view Power BI content from Teams on mobile.
      • The “best viewing experience” for Power BI tabs in Teams mobile is explicitly stated to be via the Power BI mobile apps.

Given these documented limitations and guidance, the change in behavior effectively means that:

    • Direct, fully in-Teams-mobile rendering of some Power BI content is not guaranteed.
    • The supported path is to open the tab via Open in browser, which then hands off to the Power BI mobile app when installed.

To work within the supported behavior:

    1. Ensure users have the Power BI mobile app installed on their Android or iOS devices.
    2. In Teams mobile, open the Power BI tab, choose More options (...)Open in browser so that it can hand off to the Power BI mobile app.
    3. Avoid relying on URL filters or query-string parameters in links used in the Power BI tab, as they are not supported.
    4. If embedding organizational apps, be aware that items that can’t be embedded will open in a separate browser window rather than inside Teams.

This aligns with the documented “best experience” guidance and known limitations, and explains why behavior differs between desktop and mobile.
