Links are not working in the New Outlook

Hello all,

I’m currently supporting several companies that send links via email, and since the most recent Outlook update, we’ve observed an issue where these links are being displayed as plain text instead of properly formatted clickable links.

This behavior is not isolated to my inbox—multiple users across these companies have reported the same problem. When testing with other email providers, the links are rendered correctly, which suggests the issue may be specific to Outlook.

Could anyone advise if this is a known product issue or if there is a recent configuration change or setting that needs to be adjusted?

Any guidance or support would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi @Vinicius Fernandes,

Thanks for sharing such a clear description of the issue, it really helps set the right context.

After reviewing your case, I’ve done a quick test on my side, and at the moment the behavior appears to be working as expected. Links are still being rendered as clickable in both the New Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the web, and they open normally.

To help narrow this down a bit further:

    • Could you please check one thing for me? If you open the exact same email in Outlook on the web, do the links behave correctly there, or do they still show as plain text? This will help us determine whether the issue is specific to the New Outlook client.
    • Also, just to confirm, are all the affected users part of the same organization/tenant, or are you seeing this across multiple tenants?

Whenever you have an update, feel free to leave a comment under this post. That’s the best way for me to stay notified and follow up with you promptly.

Just to set expectations, this is a user-to-user support forum, so I don’t have access to internal tools or permissions to directly investigate within your environment. That said, I’m more than happy to continue working through this with you and share any guidance within my scope.

Looking forward to your response, and I’m happy to assist further!

In new Outlook, links should be enabled and rendered as clickable by default. When they appear as plain text, the most relevant built‑in control is the junk email security setting that can block links.

For new Outlook on Windows, verify the following for affected users:

    1. Open Settings in new Outlook.
    2. Go to Mail > Junk email.
    3. Under Security options, ensure that Block attachments, pictures, and links from anyone not in my Safe senders and domains list is unchecked.
    4. Select Save.

If this option is enabled, Outlook can treat content from many senders as unsafe and may not render links as active hyperlinks, even though they appear correctly in other mail clients.

If links are still not working after confirming this setting, also check whether messages are being displayed in plain text (in classic Outlook this prevents links from working as expected). New Outlook should normally show HTML content, but if a similar restriction is applied, links may appear only as text.

If the issue persists across multiple tenants after these checks, it is likely a product issue introduced by a recent update, and it is recommended to monitor the Outlook known issues page and open a support ticket with Microsoft 365 support, referencing that links are being rendered as plain text in new Outlook after a recent update.
