Hi, on my Acer XC-886 my Canon CanoScan LiDE 300 does not connect to any USB port- on the front port Windows claims 'it does not recognize last device' and on the other ports it connects seemingly, but when I can it stops with an error message and claims that the scanner driver will be closed because scanner not found or disconnect (code 2,156,50)

I will throw out either my scanner or Windows 11, I have tried different usb-cables and setting, reinstalled drivers... What is going on here? why is Windows 11 not supporting the Canon CanoScan LiDE 300

    Hi,

When accessing Device Manager, does it show any "unknown USB" error?

Have you tried it with another PC to see if the same problem occurs?

Take a screenshot of Device Manager and post it here.

    Thanks

The issue matches a typical USB/scanner driver recognition problem in Windows 11 rather than a lack of support for the device itself.

    Try these steps in order:

    1. Check USB connection and ports
    • Make sure the scanner is firmly connected and powered (if it uses USB power only, ensure the port provides enough power).
    • Try a different USB port on the PC, especially a rear port directly on the motherboard.
    • Avoid USB hubs or extension cables.
    1. Verify Windows recognizes the USB device
    • Select Start > Device Manager.
    • Expand Printers, Imaging devices, or Other devices and look for the scanner or any device with a warning icon.
    • If the scanner appears with a warning, right‑click it and select Uninstall device, then disconnect and reconnect the scanner so Windows can attempt to reinstall the driver.
    1. Update or reinstall the scanner/printer driver
    • In Device Manager, under Printers (or Imaging devices), right‑click the scanner and select Update driver.
    • If no update is found or the problem persists, select Uninstall device.
    • Restart the PC; Windows will attempt to reinstall a compatible driver automatically.
    • If Windows cannot find a suitable driver, download the latest Windows 11/64‑bit driver for the Canon CanoScan LiDE 300 from Canon’s support site and install it, ensuring it matches the Windows version and system type.
    1. Restart the Print Spooler and the PC
    • Press Windows key + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    • Locate Print Spooler, right‑click, and select Restart.
    • Turn the scanner off (or disconnect it), restart the PC, reconnect the scanner, and test scanning again.
    1. If the issue started after a driver update
    • In Device Manager, right‑click the scanner, select Properties.
    • On the Driver tab, select Roll Back Driver if available, then restart the PC and test again.

If Windows still reports “device not recognized” on some ports, this indicates a USB communication or power issue on those ports rather than a specific lack of support for the scanner. Using a known‑good cable on a rear USB port and ensuring the correct, up‑to‑date Canon driver is installed is essential.
